iPhone 8: Advantages Disadvantages
Apple 10 Year Anniversary

Apple iPhone 8 News, Rumors, Features, Price and Specs

As a tradition, Apple Inc. releases a new mobile phone every single year and would always claim it as an under-the-hood revolution before its coming out. Will the 10 Year Anniversary be hype or a result of a new shinning flagship phone? Before coming to a conclusion, let's see a rundown of the iPhone 8 (which may also come down to "iPhone 7S" or "iPhone Pro"), like iPhone 8's disadvantages and advantages.

iPhone 8 Rumors/NEWS: It seems that people would never get bored in predicting new iPhone. This year the spotlight is surely on iPhone 8, a unique release to celebrate iPhone's 10th birthday. However, the recent top stories on Apple WWDC show nothing about 2017 new iPhone X. The last time they shared the stage was back in June 2010, when Steve Jobs launched Phone 4. Luckily, we still have massive "leak" online, among which the funniest thing is a stream of over-the-top rumors, such as rear fingerprint sensor, while the "Best Design Award" should go to its new edge-to-edge screen with Touch ID built in, if it's true. The most reliable message lies in iOS 11, which will be run on iPhone 8, with awesome new control center and screen recorder. Yet that's not all, there are still many new features to amaze you: wireless charging, updated camera settings, well, also the highest price ever.

Disadvantages and Cons
No Iris Scanner

It is said that Apple will apply new biometric tech into iOS 11 powered iPhone 8 to replace Touch ID. But it is more likely to be facial recognition instead of futuristic Iris Scanner, which has already been used in Samsung Galaxy Note 7, S8, S8+, Lumia 950 XL, etc.

Iris scan is a method of biometric identification based on irises of eyes. Being an internal organ featuring unique, stable and complex patterns, it offers more accurate identification than fingerprints and face recognition. So, the absence of Iris Scanner might be a big con of iPhone 8.

Fragile glass design

We are quite taken aback that glass-body iPhone would ever see the light of day again. After all, all-glass design is more vulnerable and heavier than aluminum. We can only hope that glass technology changes quickly and the rumored OLED glass model is tough enough.

More Expensive

An educated guess is that iPhone 8 would be the priciest iPhone, nearly $130 higher than 256 GB iPhone 7 Plus. True, components now are replaced by advanced versions, such as A11 processor, plus other fresh designs. But, hey, it's $1000!

iPhone 8's Disadvantage in File Transfer

Connect your iPhone 8 to computer via a USB cable, and you can transfer files between them freely? Time to wake up. iOS, be it earlier version or new iOS 11, doesn't allow users to access iPhone files on PC/Mac directly, let alone file sharing. This is, as always, a big disadvantage of iPhone (8) to be reckoned with.

iTunes and iCloud are designed for iOS data transferring, however coming with various defects. Let's name a few here. iTunes, covering media playback, digital store and iOS devices management, turns out to be a complicated app, running slow on computers and strictly limiting video audio format to MP3/MP4. Relying on internet connection, iCloud works slowly too when syncing files, especially large ones. Worse still, only 5GB free storage is available, which is far from enough for media backup. Upgrade is allowed at a price.

Luckily, there's an easy-to-use and professional iPhone 8 file manager!

iPhone 8 vs. Samsung Galaxy S8

5.8-inch curved screen of Galaxy S8 makes this Samsung flagship look much different with 4.7-inch iPhone 8. Expandable storage up to 256GB is available for Galaxy S8 plus internal 64GB storage, while fixed capacities (32/128/256GB) are applied to iPhone 8. Following traditional models, Galaxy S8 uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, and iPhone 8 employs Apple A11 chip. Plus, running on latest Android 7.0 and iOS 11, Galaxy S8 and iPhone 8 can deliver faster speed and greater performance. However, fingerprint reader on Galaxy S8 wrecks experience when unlocking screen.

iPhone 8 vs. Motorola Moto Z

Moto Z is another popular Android smartphone released in June 2016. It features a 5.5-inch size screen with a resolution of 1440x2560 pixels. Like Galaxy S6, Moto Z allows expanding memory via microSD up to 265GB on the basis of internal 32/64GB. As for performance, it seemingly can't keep pace with iPhone 8 for its less powerful chipset Qualcomm Snapdragon 820. Although it initially arrived with Android 6.0, it can be upgradad to 7.0 to deliver a faster running speed. The actual problem is on fingerprint sensor. Not working problem bothers many users.

iPhone 8 vs. Sony Xperia XZ Premium

Compared with Sony Xperia XZ Premium released in June 2017, iPhone 8 may re-adopt all-glass design with edge-to-edge OLED display along with all iOS 11 new powerful features. However, Sony Xperia XZ Premium has a higher 4K resolution screen, a higher pixel camera (19MP/rear, 13MP/front) and a longer battery life than iPhone 8. We do expect Apple would improve iPhone 8 batter life and camera pixels.

iPhone 8 vs. Google Pixel 2

It's rumoured that Google will release three Pixel phones in October 2017 incl. Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2. Google Pixel phones may have higher camera pixels (13MP/rear, 8MP/front), longer battery (3000mAh), larger RAM (6GB) than iPhone 8, while iPhone 8 may equip a more high-end OLED display, stylish design, IP68 water & dust resistant, plus all iOS 11 new features like improved AI Siri and AR (Augmented Reality) support.
