iPhone 8 vs Pixel 2: Google Has Prepared Well for This Mobile Battle of 2017

How about iPhone 8/Plus vs Google Pixel 2? You may not know the second-born mobile of Google can beat Apple's new flagship in the following aspects...

iPhone 8 vs Pixel 2

Google Pixel, launched in October, 2016, is the first self-branded mobile phone from Google. Although there's no real sales data revealed, we can also get a rough answer from some other figures like:
- Pixel Launcher, an app exclusively created for Pixel, has crossed 1 million downloads threshold in Google Play store until early June.
- BayStreet Research estimates Pixel/XL has been sold about 1.8 millions in total. 475,000 Pixel phones were sold in the second quarter of 2017.

As Google's first gadget to test the industry water, Pixel/XL performed better than many predictions hint, and brought certain pressure to iPhone 7/Plus (>>See Google Pixel/XL vs Apple iPhone 7/Plus). So Google gets down to its continuator - Pixel 2, expecting to have a wonderful fight with Apple's new masterwork - iPhone 8, gaining more market share against Apple. As two hot figures in the second half of 2017, Pixel 2 vs iPhone 8, who's actually prior to the other one? Is Google Pixel 2 really a threat to iPhone 8? Let's just walk through their full specs comparison.

Notice: Since Pixel 2 is an upcoming phone, all comparisons are based on its latest rumors.

iPhone 8 is said to make big change in design. But it finally only goes to iPhone X, like all-screen OLED design. iPhone 8/Plus looks the same as iPhone 7/Plus, with the only difference of its glass back. Compared with iPhone 8, Pixel 2 would not change a lot and obtain the same metal & glass body as original Pixel (its bigger XL version may be redesigned with thinner borders around the display). Besides Google Pixel 2 will be well-matched too by adopting the same AMOELD display material of Galaxy S7 edge/Note 7 or flexible OLED screen from LG with higher ppi and resolution to present high image quality. Since iPhone 7 is the first water-resistant phone from Apple, iPhone 8/Plus of course continues this trend. To keep up with iPhone 8, Google Pixel 2 might get  water resistance feature, too.

As a heavyweight Android phone in 2017, Pixel 2 running new Android 7.1 will be manufactured by HTC and debut with stellar hardware. Previously, Pixel is said to go with Galaxy-S8-powered Snapdragon 835 GPU and Adreno 530 GPU, which even working together cannot make Pixel 2 competitive with A11 and Apple custom-designed GPU (30% faster graphics performance than previous generation) equipped iPhone 8. The good news is some latest rumors hint that Pixel will introduce Snapdragon 836 (10 percent faster than 835). Although iPhone 7 has no headphone jack, iPhone 8 brings back the 3.5mm just like Pixel 2 does. The differences are Pixel 2 may use Type-C as power source, and iPhone 8 additionally supports wireless charging.

At present, nearly all flagship smartphones will be along with dual-lens camera module. So do Pixel 2 and iPhone 8 Plus. iPhone 8/Plus is equipped with lager/faster camera sensor and brand-new color filter. Its new facial landmarking in Portrait mode in Plus version helps take more vivid photos then before. Google has no plan to recruit 3D sensor and image stabilization into new Pixel 2. But it owns larger number of pixels in both font-facing and the rear one than iPhone 8, and is supposed to come with better shooting performance at low-light environment, along with some extra features added.

iPhone X is positioned in market of high-end consumer, and iPhone 8/Plus just costs less as expected. As to Pixel 2, sources have told 9To5Google that the price is nearly identical to that of 2016 Pixel by rising about $50. That's to say the price of Pixel 2 and iPhone 8 is much the same!

Conclusion: From the existent grapevine of both iPhone 8 and Pixel 2, it's easy to draw that Apple's general flagship iPhone 8/Plus is not so stunning and so worth to purchase. On the contrary, Apple's epic iPhone X catches all iFans' eyes. To the die-hard fans of iPhone, it's a god-given chance to commemorate the long-term support for Apple. But to those realists, Pixel 2 is more cost-effective.
