Sony Announces PSP Minis and Digital Reader Service

  • At GamesCon 2009 Expo, Sony made few major announcements related to their PlayStation Portable consoles in Cologne, Germany. Sony will offer a wide range of downloadable 100MB games on PSP from PlayStation Store which announced the PSP Minis service. In other words, it is another 100MB games on PSP from PlayStation Store. Consequently, Techtree's prediction about Sony to introduce game download service stands true in May.
  • The new Minis section will be made available on PlayStation Store in North American and European/PAL system supporting regions on October 1th. The PSP Minis service will co-exist along with the launch of PSPgo and will offer fifteen games initially across wide variety of genres.
  • Sony has designed development process of "Mini" games for easy adoption and implementation by game development studios of any size. By the end of this year, Electronic Arts will offer classic games like Tetris and Sudoku that will join about 50 games promised.
  • PSP Minis has number of games on its most selling apps lists which will be compared with Apple's App Store service. Sony announced much-demanded Digital Reader for the PSP owners that'll convert the gaming console into digital reader too. However, PSP Minis is a wise step by Sony to offer digital media content for their handheld console.
  • PSP owners will be able to access big library of Digital Comics from leading publishers like Marvel, IDW publishing, iVerse media and many more. In December for US and Europe's PAL regions in 2010, Digital Reader service will be launched with Digital Comics.
  • Hundreds of classic and contemporary comics could be downloadable from the PlayStation Store. The Autoflow feature will allow PSP owners to zoom in and move from frame to frame on each page of digital comics. At first, the Digital Reader app needs to be downloaded from the PS Store to gain access, download and read hundreds of comics.
  • We will have to wait till early 2010 to access PSP Minis and Digital Reader service from PlayStation Store, which will arrive in last quarter for US and Europe.
