Can I play MKV files on my Windows Media Player?

Question: I've never tried to do it before, but can play mkv files on a Windows media player? I wanna make sure before I wind up downloading something and find out I can't use it.

Best Answer: 1. Try installing the Combined Community Codec Pack. With this installed, WMP will play pretty much anything you throw at it.

2. If you are not comfortable installing codecs for WMP, try a stand alone player like Free HD Video Player - DAPlayer.

Besides, built in relatively smaller file size, DAPlayer makes more effective use of your computer resource. Meanwhile, it supports Variable Framerate video encoding (VFR), which makes MKV video surpass AVI container formats. VFR is a term in video compression for a feature supported by MKV container format which allows for the frame rate to change actively during MKV video playback, or to drop the idea of frame rate completely and set individual timecode for each MKV frame.
